Gretna Real Estate - A Terrific Place to Live in Nebraska

Imagine a rural farming community of about 2,000 people located on the Nebraska prairies between Omaha and Lincoln np dodge real estate. A mere 10 years ago this description would have fit the town of Gretna, Nebraska. Nowadays, Gretna is a booming suburb of Omaha with a population of around 4,800, and it has been called the fastest-growing city in the state. If you are looking for a home in a young and thriving suburb convenient to both Omaha and Lincoln, Gretna real estate is a great choice for you!

With easy access to I-80, Gretna is ideally located with downtown Omaha just 20 miles northeast and the state capitol of Lincoln just 35 miles southwest. Add to this a very low crime rate and a solid school system, and it is no wonder that new homes are sprouting from the fields where corn so recently grew. Of course, this growth explosion has created challenges for the city of Gretna, but they have risen to them. Two new elementary schools have gone up in the past eight years, and another one is in the works. Plans are also underway to build a second high school. In addition, the city is developing 160 acres for new sports fields to supplement what they currently have.

Gretna is an affluent community with an average household income significantly above the state average. The majority of homes for sale here are new construction or homes built within the past decade. Lots are readily available for building, and you can choose from a number of housing developments. Some even offer amazing views of the city lights of Omaha and the Platte River Valley. Homes in Gretna have an average list price of about $250,000.

The wealth of attractions in and around Gretna is amazing! You can visit Nebraska Crossing to shop in the retail stores, but there is much more to this place than shopping. Nebraska Crossing also holds a Farmer's Market once a week, offers banquet facilities for rent, and hosts a children's fun center called Tiny Town Village with a water playground and a train among other things. Children will also love Vale's Pumpkin Patch in Gretna which holds a five-week festival every fall that attracts people from all over Omaha. Schramm Park State Recreation Area boasts spectacular views of the Platte River Valley. Hike the nature trail and enjoy the unique geology of the area. Also located at Schramm Park is the Aksarben Aquarium and museum. (In case you were wondering, "Aksarben" is Nebraska spelled backwards and is a commonly used name in the Omaha area!) For even more recreation, head to the Linoma Beach Resort just down the road. Did you know Nebraska had a lighthouse? There is one at Linoma, along with a swimming beach on a 40-acre lake, campgrounds, and a restaurant.

If all of that were not enough, Gretna is the closest Omaha suburb to the Strategic Air & Space Museum omaha real estate. Formerly known as the SAC Museum, it was moved from Offutt AFB in Bellevue to a new, $30 million facility near Gretna in 1998. With 300,000 square feet of exhibit space, it has been called the nation's foremost air and space museum.

Once you realize how much Gretna has to offer, you might decide that a home in Gretna is just what you have been looking for. The real estate market is strong in Gretna and there are a lot of great choices when finding your next Nebraska home. When buying a home in this part of town, you will want to be sure to use the services and expertise of a Gretna real estate agent.
